So...Dieter Zetsche wasn't actually there, but MBUSA President and CEO Ernst Lieb was one of the judges for my presentation!Labels: 2010 E-Class, Awards, E-Class, E-Class Coupe

"Their product line-up speaks volumes about the quality and sophistication of their company. Who needs a catchy tagline when the entire product line-up truly defines the brand and speaks for itself?"
"With the right mix of sportiness and horsepower, matched perfectly with the most luxurious interior package available today, the E350 is a class leader."
"The hand polished wood trim and aluminum instrument cluster truly make the entire feel of the E350 timeless and sophisticated."
"Although 0-60 performance isn't likely the first thing that comes to mind when purchasing a Mercedes, the development of the 3.5-liter motor, combined with the 7-speed transmission, packs enough horsepower punch to compete with any of its luxury competitors, including BMW, Audi, Lexus and Jaguar."
"In addition to a steel reinforced cabin with front and rear crumple zones, the E350 has more airbags than we could count on both hands. There were front and rear side window airbags, front side airbags, front dual stage airbags, driver and front passenger pelvic airbags, a driver-knee airbag and Mercedes' NECK-PRO active head restraints."

"Because once you actually go some place and spend all day on the road and maybe even a bit longer than you'd like, then you'll figure out just how good the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 Coupe really is."
"Luxury is the place where efficiency meets pleasure, and that's where you'll find the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 Coupe. It's a serious motorcar."
"If you think everybody should pack into one car for dinner...then you should wait for the shuttle bus, because the grown-ups are leaving."
"It all adds up in acceleration, because the combination of the right kind of power and a right-size, 3,883-pound package (400 pounds lighter than an E-Class sedan) delivers 60 mph in 5.3 seconds (5.0 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip). Check out the E550 coupe's quarter-mile run of 13.4 seconds at 105.2 mph and you'll see what kind of muscle it has."
"The thing that we really care about, though, is the simple presence of the E-Class suspension. In addition to the configuration of the front suspension struts, this E550 coupe has standard adaptive damping based on inputs from seven sensors, plus the availability of both manually selected normal and Sport mode. It is an exciting time here at the dealership...the 2010 models are arriving! There is nothing I enjoy more than parking a 2009 next to a 2010 and looking for the differences. Some models have only tiny changes this year and some have the "refresh" - which is usually new bumpers, lights, a few buttons and new wheels. I have included a few pictures of the changes that jumped out at me.

"They're the right size, and when equipped with V8s, they've got the right amount of effortless performance. In relative terms, they provide a value commensurate with the asking price. Driving any one of these three announces that you know the price of quality and can justify paying for it. And clearly you're smart enough to resist overpaying for more than you require."To read the full review visit Edmunds.com
"We're glad the 2009 BMW 550i, 2010 Jaguar XF Premium and 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 Sport exist. This ideal trio goes 90 percent of the way to the M5, E63 AMG and XFR super sedans, yet they're 100 percent easier to live with and rewarding in ways the thoroughbreds are not."
"The Mercedes-Benz E550 is the quickest to 60 mph with a run of 5.3 seconds and its quarter-mile run of 13.6 seconds at 103.5 mph is also the best of the group... the E550 returns the best observed fuel economy in this comparison with 19.3 mpg, compared to the BMW's 16.9 mpg and the Jaguar's 16 mpg."
"... we're not sold on the BMW's steering effort, which we found to be too heavy, especially compared to the lightly weighted Jaguar and buttery Mercedes-Benz system. So syrupy and out of character does the 550i's steering seem that more than a couple drivers thought there might be something wrong with the car."
"The E550 Sport is by far the most adaptable, rewarding and confident car on the widest variety of surfaces despite not being the outright best-handling car."
"It is the only car here that is universally regarded as comfortable and intuitive to operate from the moment you get behind the wheel. It manages to be warm and rich, well-equipped and well-planned, and high-tech and high-quality all at the same time."
"The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 Sport amounts to more than the sum of its parts. It's hard to describe, but there's an overall sense of satisfaction, competence and experience that's somehow baked into the fiber of this car. It drives like it knows where it's going. It looks like it knows where it's been. And it's priced as if it knows where we're all headed."

"...Benz has a well-earned reputation for pricing its sedans higher than everybody else. But this time it's different. When the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 goes on sale in June, its $57,175 base price will land it smack in the middle of the V8 midsize luxury sedan class. It's also cheaper than anything else coming out of Germany."You can see the full review here.
"Mercedes hasn't finalized option pricing for the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550, but company officials assure us that $60,325 is a fair estimate for a 2010 E550 with the Premium I package that groups the COMAND navigation system, Harman Kardon Logic 7 sound, iPod integration and ventilated seats. "
"Our 2010 E550 test car feels neatly damped and over-engineered in nearly every detail. Mundane tasks like closing the doors, twisting the control dial of the COMAND system and shifting from Park to Reverse bring uncommon pleasure."
"The bigger improvement, though, is in the E550's steering, which remains a rack-and-pinion setup with a hydraulic power steering pump. It still feels light and still mutes out most road feel, but there's a level of accuracy that wasn't here before."
"We now rank COMAND at the leading edge of all-in-one audio/navigation interfaces. Whether you're using it to enter an address or search through your iPod's album list, it feels like a mostly natural extension of the car's basic controls."
"...we still average 19 mpg in mixed driving and see as much as 23 mpg on the open highway."

There are some new colors coming for the 2010 E-Class. I haven't yet seen them in person yet but I was able to get the official paint chips from Mercedes-Benz. Quartz Blue will be available on the Sedan and Coupe. Pearl Beige is for the sedan only. The Natural Beige/Black interior is a Full Leather option available on the Sport Sedan only.

The 2010 E-Class sedan is due to arrive in the US this summer. As always, Mercedes releases very little information until they release the vehicle. In the last few days a lot of pictures have been floating around the internet. Here are some of the best that I have seen. These are likely to be European specification cars and the US version may vary slightly. I'll keep you posted when I know anything for sure.

While I was in Germany last week a new photo of the 2010 E-Class hit the net courtesy of the German magazine Auto Zeitung. It's not the best angle. From the side it looks very similar to the current C-Class.
