These are the official photos of the 2011 E-Class Cabriolet. It is expected to be available for sale in May of 2010 as the E350 and E550. The specifications, options and pricing are not yet available but I am taking deposits to be on the Atlanta Classic Cars order list. In 2003, when the last cabriolet was launched, there was a significant waiting list. So far the list is short, but now that the pictures are out there more and more people will be ready to order.

The AIRCAP system on the 2011 E-Class Cabriolet will continue to increase the amount of time you can enjoy your Mercedes with the top down. Building on the AIRSCARF system currently available on the SLK and SL, AIRCAP will create a calm air zone in the passenger compartment making it both more comfortable at higher speeds and easier to heat or cool. A front deflector raises up from the top of the windshield to both redirect air higher over the passenger cabin and allow air slowed down by its screen to enter the cabin and maintain a pocket of calmer air.



Current CLK Cabriolet owners will enjoy not having to install and uninstall a wind deflector anymore. Additionally, you will be able to raise and lower the top at speeds below 25mph.

Thanks for helping me acquire my second Mercedes-Benz! Since I had to order the E550 coupe, I honestly didn't know what to expect. You were very helpful in guiding my decision process around the right options in the car and my expectations were exceeded. Also, during the process of waiting for the car to arrive you were very good about communicating the steps in the process and thus keeping me informed.

You won my business away from Audi and BMW, as I had considered the S5 and the 335i. Besides the fact that the E550 coupe is an incredible car, I feel confident knowing that Atlanta Classic Cars stands confidently behind it. The car represents a huge technological leap and excellence in performance and luxury. Two of my favorite things about the car (and my friends have noted this as well) is how smooth and quiet the car is. The technology is incredible - I'm really impressed with the automatic brights, the backup camera, and the seamless audio/phone integration and the navigation/COMAND system. I love the pillarless design and the panoramic roof (in addition to the power and technology) - passengers have commented that they really enjoy the back seats which is unusual for a coupe. From someone who has had an M3 coupe as well, I can say this is a unique comment for a coupe!

So...Dieter Zetsche wasn't actually there, but MBUSA President and CEO Ernst Lieb was one of the judges for my presentation!

This week I had the honor of representing the Southern Region and Atlanta Classic Cars in the 2010 E-Class Walk-Around National Finals in Denver. Two years ago I won the C-Class Walk-Around Competition for the Southern Region but they didn't have a national competition. This time I had to compete against every salesperson in the whole country. I won at the dealership, market, and regional levels on my way to the finals in Denver. My 15 minute presentation was tailored to a hypothetical client and highlighted many of the amazing innovations found in the 2010 E-Class Sedan. My 3 competitors and I were judged by the MBUSA Executive Management team and I was declared the National Champion!

The competition was part of the National Dealer Meeting, so I was able to see (no cameras allowed) the new E-Class Cabriolet scheduled for release this spring and the SLS AMG! Both were spectacular and will be very successful!

Mercedes has just released the pricing for the 2010 E63. Starting at an MSRP of $85,750 it is about $2000 less than the 2009 E63. At only $166 per horsepower it is a great value.

The 2010 E63 is scheduled for launch this month. The first batch has already been built and are waiting to be released to dealerships. There is a lot of anticipation for this vehicle. I was talking with a cutomer today about the inclusion of a console mounted shifter on the AMG version of the E-Class. Unlike the other 2010 E sedans that use the column mounted gear selector, the E63 AMG is using something they call the 'AMG DRIVE UNIT with center console-mounted E-SELECT lever.' This very similar to the setup in the new SLS AMG.

In the photo below you will see the rotary switch used to select 'C' (Controlled Efficiency), 'S' (Sport), 'S+' (Sport Plus), 'M' (Manual), and 'RS' (Race Start) drive modes. In Manual and Sport Plus the 7-speed will shift in only 100 milliseconds. This is 25 percent faster than just Sport. This is partially achieved through cutting the fuel and ignition for a brief time to reduce the load on the transmission during hard acceleration. Another plus to having the rotary control knob is that it allows you the leave your car in the sport mode without having the transmission default to 'C' every time you start the engine like the other 2010 E-class models do.

The 'Sport Off' button switches the ESP setting from ESP On, to ESP Sport, and ESP Off. I haven't seen any reviews yet that indicate if ESP off is truly off and I won't be testing that when the first one arrives at Atlanta Classic Cars.

Similar to previous E-Class AMG vehicles, the suspension adjustment button allows the driver to switch between Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus modes to best suit their needs.

A new feature for the 2010 E63 is the AMG Race Start function that activated by the 'AMG' button. Pressing this button will bring up a menu that allows you the adjust 'configuration options' (I won't know what those are until we have one). To use Race Start they say you will have to stop the car, be in ESP Sport, press the brake, select 'RS' drive mode, and then pull the up shift lever once while fully pressing the gas and releasing the brakes. I'm assuming those last three parts don't happen at the same time since the system is supposed to automatically rev the engine to the ideal launch RPM. That is one I will have to test and report back.

Just like the C63 Wagon I saw while I was in Germany, we probably won't see the 2010 E63 AMG Wagon here in the United States but it is such a gorgeous vehicle I wanted to share the pictures! For some reason the US market just doesn't respond to wagons. Too bad...this is a real sleeper!

It is an exciting time here at the dealership...the 2010 models are arriving! There is nothing I enjoy more than parking a 2009 next to a 2010 and looking for the differences. Some models have only tiny changes this year and some have the "refresh" - which is usually new bumpers, lights, a few buttons and new wheels. I have been driving the 2010 E-Class every day since it was released last week and I am growing to appreciate it more and more. I am especially enamored with the new Drivers Assistance Package. I have always been a big fan of the technology and gadgets in our cars but Distronic always seemed a little too expensive and not entirely useful if you don't spend all of your time on the highway. The upgrade to Distronic Plus and the addition of other features to this package has changed my mind!

The (997) Driver Assistance Package is priced at $2900 and consists of
- Distronic Plus with PRE-SAFE Brake
- Blind Spot Assist
- Lane Keeping Assist

Let's take them one at a time...
Distronic Plus with PRE-SAFE Brake - Distronic is the radar adaptive cruise control system that we have had for years. It uses radar sensors mounted behind the front grille to sense the car in front of you and maintain a set following distance. So, if you set your cruise at 70 mph and a car in front of you slows to 60 mph, you also slow to 60 mph until that car speeds up or you switch to an open lane and you'll resume 70 mph. The Plus part of Distronic Plus is that it works down to a complete stop. This is amazing and takes a little time to fully trust. For example, I drive home on a fast highway with 4 stoplights. I set the cruise at 70 and followed the car in front of me at a distance of about 100 yards. As the car in front of me slows and comes to a stop for the first traffic light the 2010 E350 also slows to a complete stop. The system's following distance is proportional to your speed so you it will bring you to a stop at a normal distance from the car that you are following. If the system keeps you stopped for more than a couple seconds you just have to just tap the gas to resume your previously set maximum speed and following distance. For anyone who spends any time on the highways around Atlanta this feature will completely change your driving experience. Since this system will allow you to use the 'cruise control' in many more situations I would also expect to see an increase in fuel mileage versus a E-Class not using this system.



PRE-SAFE Brake uses the same radar systems to constantly monitor the area in front of your E-Class. Using its long, medium, and short range radar systems it can detect objects as far as 200 yards in front of your vehicle. Pre-Safe braking is deployed in three stages. When the car detects that you are 2.6 seconds from an impact you will receive an audible and visual alert. At 1.6 seconds to impact there are 3 audible alerts and the system will automatically apply 40% of maximum power and activate the other reversible PRE-SAFE protection features like adjusting seat position, tensioning seat belts, and closing the windows. If the driver doesn't press the brake pedal or swerve to avoid the collision at 0.6 seconds to impact PRE-SAFE Braking will apply the maximum braking force to greatly reduce the severity of a collision.

Another manufacturer is advertising a system like this but it only works at speeds below about 20 mph. Our system works on moving objects when you're traveling from 19mph to 124mph and on stationary objects when you're traveling below 44mph. Just like seatbelts, airbags, and ABS brakes this technology that is now exclusive to Mercedes-Benz will someday be standard on every vehicle, as it will certainly save lives.

Blind Spot Assist - This system uses radar sensors in the rear bumper to monitor your blind spot on both sides of the car. When you start the vehicle a little orange triangle in the side-view mirrors illuminates to let you know the system is active. While you are driving the mirror is clear unless there is a car in your blind spot. Then you will see a red triangle. If you attempt to change lanes with a red triangle illuminated, the red triangle begins to flash and the car beeps twice to alert you. This has been incredibly useful for me these last few days as the car I have been driving has all of the MSRP stickers blocking my view. I can see this feature being incredible helpful to everyone, but especially for those of shorter stature or with limited movement in their necks.



Lane Keep Assist - Using a windshield mounted camera, Lane Keeps Assist alerts you when you are drifting out of your lane. It takes into account your speed and turning angle to only alert you when you are unintentionally changing lanes. It uses three short vibrations in the steering wheel that feel a lot like rumble strips and are only noticeable to the driver. The system can also distinguish between solid and broken white lines and vary its alert timing. This system operates above 37mph so you won't have to worry about it annoying you in parking lots. The system will also not activate if it believes that you are intentionally crossing based on your turn signal, brake, and accelerator usage.


All in all I think the (997) Driver Assistance Package is amazing technology that really does represent the future of the automobile. It makes perfect sense for the car to take an active role in keeping you and your family safe. For most of us these are not options that we think we HAVE to have, but I think once you have them you will never want a car without them again. Blue equals Green at Mercedes-Benz. From our fuel sipping BlueTEC diesels to the new S400 BlueHYBRID and now BlueEFFICIENCY, Mercedes is very focused on being environmentally friendly. BlueEFFICIENCY is a term that Mercedes-Benz is using to describe a push toward making current vehicles more energy efficient and reducing emissions without sacrificing comfort, safety and style. This is a great video that Mercedes just put out detailing many of the advanced features of the 2010 E-Class. According to the press release, the speed limit assist that they mention as being able to read speed limit signs uses the same wide-angle camera as the new lane departure alert(Lane Keeping Assist). This is an interesting new feature and we'll have wait to see if it can read signs here or only in Europe.

Now that this new E-Class is out of its testing camouflage we don't have to be satisfied with spy photos anymore. Below are several of the photos that Mercedes just released. The 2010 E-Class sedan is due to arrive in the US this summer. As always, Mercedes releases very little information until they release the vehicle. In the last few days a lot of pictures have been floating around the internet. Here are some of the best that I have seen. These are likely to be European specification cars and the US version may vary slightly. I'll keep you posted when I know anything for sure.

While I was in Germany last week a new photo of the 2010 E-Class hit the net courtesy of the German magazine Auto Zeitung. It's not the best angle. From the side it looks very similar to the current C-Class.

Spy pictures of the 2010 E-Class have begun to leak out. As expected, it will mirror a lot of the changes you have already seen in the C-Class and S-Class. My inventory manager saw some official Mercedes-Benz pictures of it at a line-set meeting. She said that these spy pictures don't show how "aggressive and impressive" it really looks!

Squareish headlights, sharp shoulder lines and a more angular trunk lid characterize the outside. On the inside, the 2010 E will have the updated navigation system and the central command controller. Also, they have moved the gear selection to the steering column like in the S-Class. This frees up more space for cup holders and storage.

Mercedes keeps new models as quiet as possible until the release date. Don't expect to see anything official about options or pricing for over a year. If you would like to be updated as information comes available please e-mail me.
