2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertibles Coming Soon!

Mercedes has announced the specifications for the E350 Cabriolet Demo vehicle that Atlanta Classic Cars will receive three weeks before the official launch of the E-Class Convertibles as well as the specifications for the E550 Cabriolet Launch Edition. The Launch Edition of the E550 Coupe was hugely popular when it came out last year and was quickly sold out. They are only making one Launch Edition and one Demo Vehicle per dealership.

Mercedes-Benz CLS Sculpture - Detroit Auto Show

Unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show this week, this sculpture is likely the basis for the 2012 CLS redesign scheduled for release in 2011. The SLS style grille is the most obvious change and Mercedes officials say this is the first vehicle headed away from the tradition wedge-shape and toward a more art-deco inspired design.

2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon - Motor Trend

The 2011 Mercedes E350 4matic wagon is scheduled to arrive in the US this June. I think the wagon is a great vehicle for passengers and cargo. It is also such an iconic vehicle for Mercedes.

2010 ML450 Hybrid at Atlanta Classic Cars!

A 2010 ML450 Hybrid was dropped off at the dealership yesterday! It was picked up by one of the Mercedes-Benz technical executives but I was excited to get a sneak peak. It looks a lot like the 2010 ML350 that was dropped off right afterwards but it does have a few striking differences.

Sculpted Hood - It has a very angular power dome hood that looks fantastic. It had to be that way to make room for the 180 pounds of extra electronics under the hood.

Under the hood - The engine cover is pretty extreme. The battery is in the back where the spare tire would be so this has run-flats.

Fuel Door Release Button - I don't yet know why this is the only Mercedes that has one!

I was able to go for a test drive and the ride is fantastic! Much like the diesel, if you didn't know it was hybrid you really wouldn't notice any difference in the way it drives. It is obviously a little quieter when the gas motor is off but with the radio on you can't tell when it turnes the engine on and off. The power was fantastic. It didn't feel heavy or lacking in any way. The brake feel is different than our other vehicles because they are electric but it stopped just fine.

2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 Review from Edmunds.com

"...Benz has a well-earned reputation for pricing its sedans higher than everybody else. But this time it's different. When the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 goes on sale in June, its $57,175 base price will land it smack in the middle of the V8 midsize luxury sedan class. It's also cheaper than anything else coming out of Germany."

2010 Mercedes E-Class Coupe - Official Photos

These are the first official pictures of the 2010 E-Class Coupe that is due to arrive in the US this summer. It strongly resembles the 2010 E-Class sedan that is due around the same time. It has the same twin-headlamp design, "pontoon" reminiscent rear-end and received the same much needed technology upgrade to the navigation and entertainment systems. It will continue to have the stunning B-pillarless side windows that have always been my favorite part of the CLK coupe. For this new model they have taken that one step further with the addition of the panoramic roof.

The E-Class Coupe will have the lowest drag coefficient of any production vehicle at just .24. This low drag will help the E-Class coupe to be more fuel efficient. We are expecting to receive the 3.5 liter V6 and the 5.5 liter V8 in the US, although several other diesel engines will be available in Europe.

While a coupe isn't practical for everyone, this is going to be a gorgeous vehicle that deserves strong consideration if 2 doors are enough for you! Look for the official debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March and then the New York Auto Show in April.

European Delivery Dates Announced For 2010 Mercedes-Benz Models

Mercedes-Benz offers an amazing program called European Delivery. You can order your vehicle at your local dealership, fly to Germany to pick it up, tour Europe for a few weeks in your new car and then have it shipped to your local dealership. It takes a little pre-planning but you do get a nice discount on the vehicle and it often pays for your vacation!

This is a great video that Mercedes just put out detailing many of the advanced features of the 2010 E-Class. According to the press release, the speed limit assist that they mention as being able to read speed limit signs uses the same wide-angle camera as the new lane departure alert(Lane Keeping Assist). This is an interesting new feature and we'll have wait to see if it can read signs here or only in Europe.

Mercedes-Benz 2010 E-Class Coupe (Formerly the CLK)

Mercedes-Benz is making things simpler by renaming the CLK coupe and cabriolet into the E-Class coupe and cabriolet. The Coupe will arrive in the US as a 2010 model in mid 2009. The Cabriolet will follow in about a year. Until the cabriolet is released the current CLK cabriolet will continue to be built. I look forward to having an E-Class sedan, coupe and cabriolet in our line-up! I think it will help to stabilize residual values for the coupe and cabriolet and will ensure that they have the same technology upgrades that the E-Class sedan gets regularly. In the past, the CLK has been a little neglected in the technology department.

We are expecting the S400 Hybrid to arrive in the US in "mid-2009." I do not yet have the options list or the pricing for this new model. I am very excited that Mercedes is rolling out new green technologies. I have always been a big fan of our clean diesels but right now the focus in the US has shifted to hybrids and I am sure Mercedes will do it better than anyone!

Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION gives hints to 2010 E-Class and CLK-Class

This concept car, the Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION, is set to debut in Paris in October. It looks like a coupe/R-Class hybrid to me. More important than what this car is, is what it might show us about the 2010 E-Class and CLK Coupe.

We know that the E-Class is expected to maintain the 4-headlight look but become more angular like the new S, C and SL. This concept car is using a very SL style grille along with the 4-headlight look. I like this depiction of the 4 headlights much better than some of the renderings I have seen.

Our next new vehicle debut will be the BlueTEC diesel SUV's in October, the GLK small SUV in January and then 2010 E and CLK Coupe next summer.

Mercedes just released these photos without any other details to explain the functionality, release date, or model avaliablity of this update. I'm making some assumptions here so please don't take this as fact.

These first two images are taken in a GLK. You can see that in addition to the currently avaliable iPod and audio input jacks a new USB connection will be avaliable along with a 12 volt power outlet in the glovebox. The big question is what devices will be able to interface through this USB connection.

This photo was taken in a C-Class and shows a similar box with the addition of an SD card slot. Since most 2009 models will have an SD card slot on ther radio this may be a retrofit for older models or just for the 2009 models that don't already have an SD card slot. We would have to assume that the devices shown are all intended to work with this system so at the least the USB connection should be able to read music files off of a thumb drive. It would be great if this connection could be used to read files from smartphones or other phones with a usb connection. I'll be sure to post more information on this as it's released.

Future Mercedes Timeline - Rumors, Predictions and Hybrids!

The 2009 Mercedes-Benz models are just around the corner and we are starting to get a little information for the following model years. This information is preliminary and by no means is it set in stone. It is the best information I have available at this time.

August 2008 - Facelifted 2009 ML - Photo - Options

October 2008 - BlueTEC SUV's with 50-State emissions

January 2009 - 2010 GLK arrives in the 300 and 350 gasoline V-6's

January 2009 - SL63 Black - Only 200 for the US! 600 hp and 722 lb/ft torque

June 2009 - All new CLK Coupe

June 2009 - Facelifted GL

August 2009 - All new 2010 E-Class

Mid 2009 - ML450 Gas/Electric Hybrid

Mid 2009 - S400 Gas/Electric Hybrid

Late 2009 - Facelifted S-Class

Late 2009 - G550 MY2010

Mid 2010 - All new CLK Cabriolet

2010 - E320 Bluetec in new body style

2010 - C-Class diesel...maybe the C250

2010 - GLK diesel (maybe a diesel hybrid)

2011 - S-Class diesel

Mercedes 2010 GLK350 - Motor Trend First Drive

Motor Trend went to Spain to get behind the wheel of the new GLK350. While the car they tested had the off-road package that is not expected to be an option here it is still a good article for anyone interested in this new compact SUV. You can read their full report here

2010 Mercedes GLK350 - First Brochure

Mercedes just sent out an information sheet on the 2010 GLK350 4Matic. I have included the 4 pages here as a PDF for you.

This SUV will be slightly smaller than the ML350 and will share a lot with the C-Class. This is the first time I have seen a real interior picture. Notice that it has the same steering wheel, armrest, instrument cluster, door buttons and climate control as the 2008 C-Class.

You'll be able to see a lot more of the GLK in the new "Sex and the City" movie. From what I understand, one of the women drives the new GLK and Mr. Big is chauffered in an S550 as well!

Mercedes 2010 E-Class Spy Photos

Spy pictures of the 2010 E-Class have begun to leak out. As expected, it will mirror a lot of the changes you have already seen in the C-Class and S-Class. My inventory manager saw some official Mercedes-Benz pictures of it at a line-set meeting. She said that these spy pictures don't show how "aggressive and impressive" it really looks!

Squareish headlights, sharp shoulder lines and a more angular trunk lid characterize the outside. On the inside, the 2010 E will have the updated navigation system and the central command controller. Also, they have moved the gear selection to the steering column like in the S-Class. This frees up more space for cup holders and storage.

Mercedes keeps new models as quiet as possible until the release date. Don't expect to see anything official about options or pricing for over a year. If you would like to be updated as information comes available please e-mail me.

2009 Mercedes-Benz SL550 Up Close at Atlanta Classic Cars

The 2009 SL550 visited the dealership yesterday for our training class. It was great to be able to see it in person! While it is not a complete redesign, it is more substantial than just the usual refresh. I've pointed out the main aesthetic differences in the slideshow above. Of course, the pictures don't do it justice. It looks aggressive, fresh and exciting.

The new technology is perfect...exactly what the SL needed. The new Navigation system has the same graphics and the C-Class/S-Class system but does not use the central command controller. The 40 gb hard drive allows the data to be used much faster and updated more often. Also, this is the first vehicle that will use the SD card reader rather than the PCMCIA slot for loading your digital music files. You'll even be able to store music from the card slot or the 6 CD changer onto the 4 gb Music Register!

I highly recommend you get the 321 Wheel Package. For under $2000 it's a lot of look - 19" AMG wheels, sculpted leather steering wheel with shift paddles, and special headlights and tail lights. It looks very custom!

Also, Airscarf, the best feature for any convertible, will debut on the 2009 SL. These vents in headrests blow heated air over your shoulders at low, medium or high speed. Airscarf can extend your top down season here in Atlanta to almost all year!

The 2009 SL is in production now and the release is scheduled for April. Right now they are sitting at the port in Germany awaiting the order to ship out! Let me know if you would like to be notified when these beauties arrive.

SLK Panorama Roof Option?

I love the Panorama roof option. Photos recently hit the Internet of an SLK with a prototype of this option. This is a stunning option on the SL and makes the hardtop convertible experience even better. A great side effect of the Panorama roof is that the black glass roof gives most cars a really nice look. The S-Class and E-Class with this option are great examples of this. The car that would really look great with this option is the CLS. It would probably hurt back seat head room though...

Mercedes Vision GLK BLUETEC Hybrid - 40mpg!

At the Geneva auto show Mercedes-Benz showed off their new Vision GLK BLUETEC Hybrid. Based on the upcoming GLK-Class this concept combines a 2.2 liter BLUETEC diesel with a mild hybrid system to result in a stunning 40 mpg. The 2.2 liter diesel by itself is a great package with an output of 224 hp & 413 lb-ft of torque.

I'm a huge fan of diesels and I would love to see this motor with or without the hybrid in the GLK and next years C-Class for the US market. Based on Mercedes past launches I would expect to see the GLK BLUETEC available a few months after the gasoline powered GLK350 comes out this summer. The hybrid GLK will probably launch in 2009 or 2010 along with hybrid versions of several other Mercedes models.

The New GLK!

The Vision GLK was introduced at the 2008 North American International Auto Show this week. This is will be Mercedes new small SUV - a little smaller than the ML but with styling more similar to the GL - hence the name. We expect it to be for sale in the US in early 2009 as a 2010 model. Most of the interior and navigation appear to be very similar to those found in the 2008 C-class. The auto show versions were powered by a new to the US market 2.2 Liter BLUETEC clean diesel rated at 168hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Based on the performance of our current ML and GL diesel models I would estimate this setup will get about 30mpg highway.

The GLK showed up on mbusa today for the first time. Their have also been several recent pictures of the GLK from the filming of the new Sex in the City movie where it will be featured.

The Future SLC!

The SLC is expected to debut at the Geneva Auto Show in 2008 and would probably arrive as a 2010 model. As you can see from these renderings it is still unclear if the SLC will be a front engine ultra light hardtop uber-SL or if it will be a new mid-engine halo car to directly take on cars like the Carrera GT and Enzo. Personally I'm hoping for the latter. I think that CLK AMG Black Series already fills the needs of buyers of a front engine model. If they can build a spectacular mid-engine car with a price tag around $300k they would have a relative hit on their hands.

Whatever they choose, unlike the SLR Mercedes is developing this new car totally in-house with AMG. This fits with past rumors that Mercedes is looking to replace McLaren in their F1 efforts with AMG's racing division HWA.

Bring me a deposit today and I'll get you on the list now for whatever they decide to build.
