Naming a Mercedes-Benz is a complicated matter involving tradition, prestige and trademarks. Sometimes an old classic is removed and replaced with something that fits better with the current line-up. Well, that is going to happen in a big way over the next few years!
The goal is to center the model designations around the 5 core models – A, B, C, E, and S. SUVs will start with GL and then add the core model designation that tells you how it lines up. The Coupes and Roadsters get a similar system using the CL and SL pre-fixes.
Get it? I think it will take me a while to remember the new names and I know I’ll be calling it the ML for years!
Also, we are shortening the engine designations:
There is going to be so much extra room on the trunk!

There are just two new features on the 2015 S550 that were not available on the 2014 S550. However, both of those features are very cool and have earned their own videos!

I don’t know Jim personally but he is very helpful!
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a marvel of technology, beauty and power. It is a joy to drive and a real advancement in vehicle safety and convenience. With that said, there are so many features it is hard to absorb it all in one introductory lesson (or two lessons…or three).
For all of you S-Class Class owners who have got the basics down it is time to get fancy! Mercedes-Benz has posted a variety of instructional videos on the Mercecdes-Benz YouTube channel to help you maximize your understanding of your new marvel! Take a look!
And for those of you who don’t have a new 2014 S-Class yet…it is still amazing to see what these vehicles can do!
Here are some pictures of a 2014 Mercedes-Benz S550 that just arrived for a client. This is the first car we have received in Anthracite Blue and I wanted to try to get some pictures for future reference. As always, color is hard to capture so I parked it next to an Indigo Blue E350 Bluetec and a Lunar Blue E350. I’m not sure it helped!
At first glance it looks Steel Grey to me. In the right light, if you are looking for it, you can see the blue.
This car also features the Deep Sea Blue designo Interior which is stunning!
That is my best attempt to capture this new color. If you are considering it I would recommend you like Steel Grey and then picture it a little blue.
I’m not sure this app could have helped anyone in Georgia yesterday…but it could come in handy in less dire circumstances!

The MBUSA website offers a great comparison tool. You can compare Mercedes vs. Mercedes or Mercdes vs. something else in dimensions, features and even pictures. It has helped me numerous times when someone is looking an another make that I am unfamiliar with or the exact dimensions of two of our own models. It is kind of fun to stack them up side by side and see what surprises you. Note: every manufacturer measures differently and you should try on a car in person before deciding it will or won’t work for you.
There are lots of different ways to set your clock. You can find information about your specific model and radio by visiting the How To Videos section at MBUSA.com. Or, if you’re in the neighborhood, I would be happy to set it for you. Enjoy the extra daylight!
I am a huge fan of the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. I visited in 2008 and I always tell people the 6 hours I spent there were not nearly enough! The automotive history is impressive and the vehicles themselves are works of art! It looks like Autoweek had a good time too!
If you take European Delivery of your new Mercedes-Benz we’ll buy the tickets!
“The history lesson was welcome and we would have enjoyed the well-planned displays even if the placards didn’t make space for English translations.”
“Galleries devoted to “voyagers” (buses, touring vehicles and wagons) “carriers” (buses and auto haulers) and “helpers” (fire, police and service vehicles) grabbed our attention as firmly as the Gullwings did, though we never want to see a Unimog as spic-and-span clean as the ones displayed at the museum are ever again.”
“We struggled to put a dollar value on the Silver Arrows before us — $150 million? $250 million? Priceless? — before resigning ourselves to simply enjoying the banked display setup.”
