2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 Bluetec Reviews

2013 GLK250 bluetec

Everyone is reviewing the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 Bluetec right now! It is a great combination of efficiency, power and good looks. Here is a roundup:

My First GLK250 Bluetec Owner

“I did not expect to be this impressed! I knew I would like it…but this is even better than I hoped for!”

Autoguide

“After two hours on some of southern Michigan’s twisting rural roads the car topped 35 miles per gallon.”

Autoweek

“The engine is so refined and insulated from the cabin that it’s hard to detect  any “dieselness.” Brakes are responsive, the steering steady and sure, the body  control good. Nothing seems to upset the serenity of the driving experience,  much like the unwavering steadiness of its big brother GL.”

Edmunds

“Moving the GLK250 Bluetec at a fairly snappy pace is a new 2.1-liter, four-cylinder twin-turbodiesel mated to Mercedes’ seven-speed automatic transmission. The package delivers 200 horsepower and an impressive 369 pound-feet of torque and Mercedes estimates 0-60 acceleration at 7.9 seconds.”

Newsday

“The sophistication of the GLK’s ride and handling are impressive. The GLK handled southeast Michigan’s moonscape roads with amazing smoothness, damping out the majority of the cratered surfaces even at higher speeds.”

Crave Online

“The advantages of diesel engines are numerous, and most American drivers have no clue about the upsides. Such power-plants are more efficient than standard engines, improving mileage and overall energy output. They’re more reliable because they don’t need a high powered electrical ignition system. They run cooler, cleaner and longer – all while being easier to supercharge.”

Autoblog

“The GLK250 BlueTEC 4Matic starts at $38,590, which falls in the middle of the $37,090 GLK350 and $39,090 GLK350 4Matic. Our fully optioned tester rang in at $50,485, and before you guffaw, know that an Audi Q5 Hybrid starts at $50,900 – that’s without a single option box ticked.”

Me

“Please come drive the GLK250 yourself if you have doubts. It is amazing! I love it!”

2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class and 2013 GL-Class are Motor Trend SUV of the Year Contenders!

2013 GLK-Class

“Its interior styling is more luxurious than the previous-generation model, with  one of the nicest improvements being the massive piece of burled wood covering  the dash from edge to edge.”

“Most of the judges liked the styling changes, and everyone agreed the GLK is an  exceptionally fun vehicle to drive. It’s quick, nimble, and  confidence-inspiring, with exceptional braking.”

“For our 2013 Sport/Utility of the Year competition, the overwhelming majority  of the competitors were car-based. There was one that wasn’t though, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, a vehicle that in the  words of technical director Frank Markus, “did more of what we expect an SUV to do.””

Good luck to both competitors! The results will be available on October 15th.

Mercedes-Benz Becker Map Pilot Instructions

The Becker Map Pilot (Option Code 001 + Pre-Wire Code 508) is now available for the 2013 C-Class, GLK-Class and SLK-Class. I have used it a few times and find it to be much more intuitive than the Nav+4 or UMI that we used before. The Pre-Wire option is $200 and the Becker Map Pilot itself is $600 and can simply be plugged into the dock. The biggest flaw with the kit was the lack of a detailed instruction manual. Here it is!

Thanks to Nash for finding it for me!

The First 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 at Atlanta Classic Cars!

Our first facelifted 2013 GLK350 arrived today! This particular model is wearing the standard 19″ triple spoke wheel and a new paint for 2013, Graphite Grey (code 986). This new color is a lot like the Indium Grey that is available on the sedans. The interior looks wonderful! The vents are eye catching, there is more wood and new center console is very nice. The GLK350 is available in 2 wheel drive and 4matic for 2013 with the GLK250 Bluetec due in early 2013.

Car and Driver Reviews the 2013 GLK250 and GLK350

2013 GLK-Class

“The familiar 3.5-liter gasoline V-6 gets direct fuel injection and a robust output increase, from 268 hp to 302, and 258 lb-ft of torque to 273. However, the bigger news is the GLK250 BlueTec diesel, available in the U.S. only with 4MATIC four-wheel drive. With a debut set for early 2013, the diesel’s pricing hasn’t been announced, but Mercedes execs hinted that it should slot in above the base rear-drive GLK350 ($37,995) and below the GLK350 4MATIC ($39,995). The gas-powered models will be available later this summer.”

“The 190-hp diesel makes distinctly diesel noises and vibes, although it’s a distant, well-muffled clatter without a lot of tick-ticking in it, thanks to those pricey (and quieter) piezo injectors. As advertised, the max of 369 lb-ft torque is available nearly instantly (from 1600 rpm to 3000 rpm), and the GLK250 pulls away from a stop with the kind of assertive, confident thrust that we’ve come to expect from modern turbo-diesels.”

“No major changes are notable in the GLK’s composed handling. This is a compliment, in light of the switch to electromechanical steering, which gives precise helm control if not lively feedback and lets you cut clean ellipses through corners with good grip and body control.”

MotorTrend – 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 BlueTec First Drive!

2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 diesel

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class is getting a refresh this summer and the diesel version is in the line-up! I have been expecting it at the end of 2012 but all of the latest information is now saying early 2013. I am a huge fan of our diesels, I love the 4-cylinder engine in the C250 and I can hardly wait for these two things to combine in the perfect small SUV!

2013 GLK250 interior

“It’s not quite as quick as the 3.5-liter, but the diesel is still plenty fast  and it performed just as admirably during our mountain road runs. Its quiet  rumble is refined enough to fit well in a luxury vehicle,  but the muted sound still reminds you it isn’t a gas engine.”

“While the diesel is down on horsepower compared to the gas engine, its tradeoff  is way more torque. It seems perfectly matched to GLK, almost like it was  designed for the SUV from the start.”

“The GLK250′s 2.1-liter turbodiesel has been around in Europe since 2008, where  it has powered the C- and E-Class, and even the S-Class.” (people always ask me this…is it a NEW new engine or just new to the US?)

“The diesel offering and the overhaul of the interior make this vehicle more  competitive than it ever has been before…”
