Mercedes-Benz has just informed us that there will be no model year 2010 SL550, SL600, SL63 AMG, or SL65 AMG. We will sell the remaining 2009s until the end of the year and then the 2011 SL-Class will be launched in the 1st quarter of 2010. The 2011 will not be a body style change - that is expected for model year 2013. More details should be available soon.

Our 2009 SL65 Black Series is now available for sale! This car arrived at the dealership earlier this month and is ready for delivery! It is stunning! The pictures do not do it justice. It seems to be about as wide as it is long - the fender flares are mind boggling! The interior is gorgeous with the contrast stitching and special gauges. It also sounds phenomenal!

Owners of 2008 and newer Mercedes can now add "The Best of XM" to their existing account. However, some vehicles will require a trip to the shop for updated software.

If you have a 2008 or 2009 S/CL-Class or a 2009 SL/SLK/E/CLS/M/R/GL-Class with a Command head unit your software update should be available mid-October.

If you have a 2008 E/CLS/SLK-Class with a Command head unit the software update is currently being tested and they are hoping to have it available by the beginning of November.

All other 2008 and 2009 vehicles should receive "The Best of XM" without a software update.

Mercedes newest addition to the exclusive AMG Black Series will be based on the V12 biturbo SL65. Modeled after the current Formula 1 pace car, only 200 of these 661 hp race ready SLs will be sold in the US for the 2009 model year.

Though this car is based on the 2009 SL, the Black Series will have a non-retractable carbon-fiber roof, widened front and rear carbon-fiber fenders, and a carbon-fiber hood and trunk lid making it 550lbs lighter than the standard SL65. The widened rear fenders will allow for the widest rear tires ever used on an AMG at 325/30ZR20 which should work out to about 12.5 inches wide. The information from Mercedes doesn't mention any details about the movable rear spoiler shown in the photos above but I would assume it will raise and lower based on speed. With 661 hp and 738 lb-ft 60 mph will come up in 3.6 seconds on the way to the limited top speed of 199 mph.

Production will start in August of this year with deliveries starting in December. These cars will be very exclusive and only large dealers like ours will be able to get them for you. If you're interested in ordering one contact me now.

We were just allocated an extra 2009 SL550 Silver Arrow Edition! One of only 550 produced for the US market this year, this car is rare and won't be available for long. It is currently at the port and should arrive at the dealership this week.

The previous iPod kit available for 2008 and older vehicles replaced the AUX jack in the glovebox. It could only connect to iPods or iPhones and the folders and songs were only displayed in the multifunction display in the insturment cluster.
The new iPod/MP3 Media Interface Cable will replace the old system. This cable has plug-ins, for the iPod and for any MP3 Player! The display will now be on the Command (Navigation) screen and should be much easier to use. I saw it work on the 2009 SL. This will be part of the Premium 1 Package for all of the 2009 SUV's, the SL's and the CLS's.

The 2009 SL550 visited the dealership yesterday for our training class. It was great to be able to see it in person! While it is not a complete redesign, it is more substantial than just the usual refresh. I've pointed out the main aesthetic differences in the slideshow above. Of course, the pictures don't do it justice. It looks aggressive, fresh and exciting.

The new technology is perfect...exactly what the SL needed. The new Navigation system has the same graphics and the C-Class/S-Class system but does not use the central command controller. The 40 gb hard drive allows the data to be used much faster and updated more often. Also, this is the first vehicle that will use the SD card reader rather than the PCMCIA slot for loading your digital music files. You'll even be able to store music from the card slot or the 6 CD changer onto the 4 gb Music Register!

I highly recommend you get the 321 Wheel Package. For under $2000 it's a lot of look - 19" AMG wheels, sculpted leather steering wheel with shift paddles, and special headlights and tail lights. It looks very custom!

Also, Airscarf, the best feature for any convertible, will debut on the 2009 SL. These vents in headrests blow heated air over your shoulders at low, medium or high speed. Airscarf can extend your top down season here in Atlanta to almost all year!

The 2009 SL is in production now and the release is scheduled for April. Right now they are sitting at the port in Germany awaiting the order to ship out! Let me know if you would like to be notified when these beauties arrive.

Since 1996 Mercedes-Benz and AMG have supplied the official Formula One Safety Car and the 2008 season will continue this great tradition. Mercedes relationship with the world's most popular form of motor racing has provide huge awareness of the stunning combination of luxury and performance that all AMG models provide their owners. Taking over from the CLK63 AMG used in 2006 and 2007, the newly updated SL63 has been modified to take over the 2008 Safety Car duties. In addition the obvious addition of lights and safety equipment this SL has been stripped of it's retractable top mechanism and various panels have been replace with carbon fiber. These changes resulted in almost 500 pounds of weight savings.

Mercedes will also provide new wheels for Formula One's Race Doctor and first responders. Based on the C63 AMG wagon, that we don't get to enjoy in this country, the 2008 Medical Car carries a response team of four and emergency equipment as fast as possible to any accident.

Qualifying for the first Formula One race of the season starts in just 7 days.

Mercedes has officially released photos and details on the restyled 2009 SL-Class. The most noticeable styling change is obviously the new headlights. These bring the SL's facial features in line with the trend that first started on the CLS. Beyond the headlights many of the SL's body surfaces have been given more aggressive styling. Interior upgrades include the addition of the AIRSCARF headrest heating system that has been available on the SLK for a couple years. It appears that the available engines will remain the same with a few tweaks to improve fuel economy.
The basic chassis and engine are expected to remain the same until a complete redesign for 2013 but all of the body panels and much of the technology will be upgraded for this 2009 model.
