Another great European Delivery Experience! Alyson picked up her latest Mercedes-Benz via Euro Delivery and then went on a birthday road trip! Let's start at the beginning.
Alyson's lease was ending and it was time to pick out her next Mercedes-Benz. She was kind of thinking about a trip to Europe to celebrate her birthday so we were able to combine the two experiences. She chose a gorgeous C300 coupe in Magno Matte Selenite. While the C300 sedan is not available for European Delivery (because they are mostly built in Tuscaloosa) the coupe and cabriolet still come from Germany! So, we ordered the car, completed the leasing paperwork and off she went!
After picking up her new car at the Kundencenter in Sindelfingen, Alyson planned a tour of castles and mountains through Germany, Austria, Italy and finishing in Nice, France. Luggage for two (including some unexpected gear to deal with a broken foot) were loaded into the car without issue. Her favorite part of the trip was driving through the mountains with her sporty new car and feeling out the capabilities.
The car caused quite a stir everywhere she went! The lines of the coupe are really highlighted by the matte paint and the ambient lighting on the interior is quite a show at night! Alyson said people were literally turning their heads to watch it drive by. They drove through small towns, on twisty mountain roads and into large cities without issue. Prague may have been the tightest squeeze but that is when you let the valet take over.
After her grand tour, Alyson left the car in Nice and came back to Atlanta. Seven weeks later the C300 has arrived! It feels so good to be reunited. Now the plan will be to get close to the end of the lease and then plan another adventure! Thanks for coming along on Alyson's birthday road trip!
If you are thinking about a European Adventure of your own please do get in touch! I can help anywhere in the country and make your experience one to remember! Visit the European Delivery Site and then "Watch the Video" - third arrow link on the left - to see me picking up a car!
Over the last few years our core line-up of sedans has developed a "common design language." This is generally a good thing as it elevates the appearance of all of the sedans and strengthens the Mercedes-Benz family resemblance.
However, for the average person that means it is harder and harder to tell the classes apart! I will admit that from a distance or while the car is moving even I can have trouble telling one from the other. Throwing in something tricky like a Luxury E-Class or a C43 can make it even more challenging!
Here is the secret:
The C-Class, the smallest sedan, has one eyebrow in the headlight. The medium-sized E-Class has two and the flagship S-Class has three. Pretty easy to tell them apart now, right? So easy!
A similar system is employed for the tail lamps too but from the back of the car you usually have the benefit of badging to help you identify which vehicle you are seeing. But be careful! There is an option from the factory to delete badging and some customers choose to debadge cars after the fact as well. You'd hate to be caught out! And what about those very bad Mercedes-Benz owners who add a fake badge to the car? Now you'll know that that E63 is really a C-Class!
Now, there are exceptions. This only works since the 2018 S-Class received a facelift with the new 3-stripe headlamps. Also, the most basic C-Classes can have halogen headlights with no eyebrows at all. The SUVs and the coupes don't participate in this easy to decipher head lamp system.
Next time you see Mercedes-Benz in a parking lot you'll be able to casually say "That's an E-Class" without having to walk to the back to look at the badging! Consider yourself a Mercedes-Benz expert!
The epitome of a luxury cabriolet. Nothing better!
For most people the price will be the starting point, but there are more factors! For example, the C43 and the E400 would be similar in price. However, they have very different personalities! The C43 is aggressive where the E400 is smooth. Do you want exhaust note? That is the C43!
The S-Class might be twice the price of the E400 but it could be the only cabriolet you ever buy! It is a classic. There is absolutely nothing in the looks, power, interior or overall feel that could be better! Spend more now, but never say goodbye!
All of these cabriolet are equipped with amazing technology. I am personally a huge fan of the AIRCAP and integrated wind diffuser. The AIRCAP pops up just about the windshield and directs the air higher, over the passengers and then the diffuser blocks it from swirling back inside.
Airscarf is another top-down must-have. This neck level vent directs warm air over your neck and shoulders, making it comfortable to be top-down to very low temperatures.
The Mercedes-Benz soft-top itself is also fantastic. There is minimal wind noise and it looks so rich!
While I am at it...I ran across this site while I was googling and will now be using it for all of my Mercedes Technology References.
Come pick out your cabriolet today!
For my driving vacation this year I participated in Rally North America - Rally Appalachia 2. This event is a essentially a three day scavenger hunt with 70 other teams. We started in Virginia and ended in Alabama. Each morning we lined up, received a list of checkpoints and bonus point opportunities and then hit the road! It was totally up to the teams which checkpoints and activities they saw each day. The rally raised money for Hope For the Warriors which is a charity that supports veterans and their families as they transition back into civilian life. The whole rally raised nearly $150,000 this year!
There was a huge variety of vehicles participating in the rally. Team Grey market brought their gorgeous G320 and ran it on all the tracks! The GLS on the right was actually a rental car and they said it was excellent for this event! There were a lot of American Muscle cars, a few exotics and some classics like a Corvair and vintage Suburban! It was so fun to meet other vehicle enthusiasts and trade stories.
Along our route there were classic automotive must-dos like the Tail of the Dragon and the Blue Ridge Parkway. This rally is not a race. It is for points, not time, so speeding is discouraged but fun is not! My new C43 was a delight on the 318 turns of the Tail of the Dragon and the shady roads of the Blue Ridge parkway were great with the top down.
Coincidentally another team had also just picked up their new C43! Team Euro Trash arrived in this Brilliant Blue C43 sedan and we spent two days rallying together. They look good as a pair (and sound even better)!
We saw parts of Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. Extra points for Welcome to the State signs! Fun fact, if you turn around immediately you get the Welcome to the Other State sign too!
Track time on two iconic American tracks was included with the rally. We did quite a few laps on Virginia International Raceway (behind the G-Class - check out my Instagram video) which is a curvy, twisty course. The last day we were able to do laps on the oval at Talladega Superspeedway! That banking is serious business. 130 was my top speed in the C43. I had the top town! Other participants reported hitting 150!
Overall it was wan excellent way to see the US, with other enthusiasts, while raising money for charity. A win-win-win! Thanks Rally North America!
In a couple of weeks I will be taking my new 2017 C43 cabriolet on a road trip! I am participating in Rally North America which is a multi-state, scavenger hunt style rally that starts in Virginia and ends in Alabama.
My friend Ben Wayne makes excellent car videos and I thought this was a great opportunity to showcase both the C43 and Rally North America.
I am raising money for Hope for the Warriors as a part of Rally North America. This organization helps veterans reintegrate into the community. 100% of the funds raised goes to the charity. Chick here if you would like to donate!
I will be posting about the Rally on my Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. You can find me as BenzBlogger on all three platforms.
Enjoy the video!
I have signed up to participate in the Rally North America tour of the Appalachians in July 2017! This is my first official rally!
Rally North America is a scavenger hunt style multi-state road rally that visits different parts of the country each year. The summer 2017 trip happens to be in my area. Rally Appalachia will take me from Christiansburg, Virginia to Rome, Georgia and visit several racetracks along the way. There are 70 teams signed up and several on the waiting list. Countdown: The start is July 10th, just four months from now!
Now, I need help! Rally North America uses this event to raise money for charity. The charity for this event is Hope for the Warriors, a Veteran Service Organization. Hope for the Warriors provides support for veterans, family members and active service members. The focus is health and wellness, community involvement and transition from military to civilian life. Here is a chart about how they use donations.
There are a couple of ways you can donate to both help Hope for the Warriors and to help team @BenzBlogger meet our fundraising goals!
1 - You can visit the online donation area a donate as an individual. Click here, choose your amount and you're all set!
$10.00 Provides a meal to a service member at a hunting or fishing trip
$25.00 Covers meals for a spouse visiting a wounded service member in the hospital
$100.00 Provides childcare for a service member attending standing Dr. appointments
$500.00 Covers books/supplies for a scholarship recipient
$1,000.00 Travel/lodging to a brain treatment facility
2 - E-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org to set up a sponsorship. I plan to wrap my car with my donor info! I would be happy to use your Instagram or Twitter handle or a company logo. We can work together on placement and look. The higher the donation the bigger the placement! You'll still donate through the website like a private donation and get the receipt for tax purposes.
My team fundraising goal is $2500. Can you help me reach this goal and support a worthy charity? Would you like to see your name on my new convertible and get exposure on all of my social media channels? I hope so!
Regular updates to come. Thanks in advance!
I am getting ready to order my new Mercedes-Benz and I just can't decide on the colors! You'd think I spend enough time looking at the cars to know what I want but I'm feeling indecisive. I thought you might have an opinion.
First, I am not deciding between S63 cabriolets, even thought what is what is in the picture! I am pretty sure it is going to be a C43 Cabriolet. I have really enjoyed my E400 cabriolet but the new E-Class cabriolet won't be ready when I need to switch cars. The engine in the 43 is a lot of fun and the new C-Class design is so beautiful! I know I would be happy with this vehicle. I'm not sure I'll ever be without a cabriolet again!
Now, for the color. My go-to is white/saddle/black top. However, I need to get a different color this time. I'm in a rut. Gotta shake it up! Here are the things I know for sure:
Not Red Interior
Not Brown Top
Not Black with Black top
Definitely Sport Package, Night Package, Multispoke Wheel
That's it. I am pretty open to everything else. Here is the link to the Build Your Own site. On the Summary Page there is a button to e-mail your build. Please do send it to me! email@example.com
My current favorite combos are: Paint/Leather/Top
Have you seen anything out in the world that you really loved? Is there a color that you think would be perfect for me? Is there a combination I am overlooking? I have about 2 weeks to make up my mind and then another month to change my mind a few times. 🙂 The order will likely lock in by April for a May build and late June or early July delivery.
For those of you keeping track, my E400 lease is not officially up until November 2017. I am planning to use the Mercedes-Benz Loyalty Accelerator Program to waive my last couple of payments so I can make the switch early. I estimate that I will hit my total allowed miles in July!
Thanks in advance for your help!
The AMG models have been excluded from the European Delivery Program discounts for years...but that is changing! The 2018 Mercedes-AMG C43 and C63 coupe and cabriolet will be available, starting August 2017, with a 5% discount! You can pick up this car in Sindelfingen or Bremen! September would be an amazing month for a top down tour of Germany!
There are a lot of reasons to opt for a European Delivery and the discount offered on most models has always been a strong incentive. Most models qualify for a 7% discount as well as having the $925 destination fee waived! The European Delivery trip includes one night at a great hotel, taxi vouchers and a meal at the delivery center. Mercedes-Benz now offers a $200 waiver on Delta (direct flights from ATL to STR)! In short, this is a deal!
The AMG and S-Class vehicles would also qualify for a Center of Excellence Delivery if you would like to spend some additional time with the Mercedes-Benz experts at the factory and have a four course meal!
So, let's do the math! You want a 2018 C43 cabriolet this fall. MSRP is about $70,000. Let's subtract the $925 destination fee and then 5% (about $3500) and you get a sale price around $65,500! That $4500 in savings will easily pay for airfare for two ($400 Delta discount applies!) and a week of fun in Europe! If you want a $100,000 C63 S you save even more!
You do have the option to lease, purchase or pay cash when you take delivery in Europe. It is kind of like taking delivery in the US, except you get to do it twice! You'll meet your new car for the first time in Germany and then, six to eight weeks later, you meet her again in the US! I can even make arrangements to have it shipped to a dealership closer to your home if you do not live in the Atlanta area!
So, if there weren't enough reason to love the C43 and C63, now you can love them in Europe!
