I know you have all been anxiously awaiting the "Build Your Own" feature for the 2020 GLS-Class to arrive! It's here! Did you know you can save your builds and e-mail them to others? Have you been making your Holiday Wish List already? Hint, hint!
"In an ever-more-crowded field of luxury SUVs, treat yourself to some room. The all-new GLS is more spacious, more aerodynamic, and wraps class-leading innovations in style that's bold yet elegant. The SUV leader offers an even more comfortable lead." - MBUSA.com
Please note: everything you find on the internet is not the TRUTH! Occasionally the Build Your Own Feature will have some errors that need to be corrected when we place the final order. It's pretty good, but not 100% perfect. Don't be surprised if a certain option requires another option to be valid. Sometimes it will show a color/trim/feature that has delayed availability. It is an excellent tool but not the final word!
There are also some items listed that cannot be ordered with the car but would be selected at the time of purchase. The Pre-Paid maintenance plans are one of those items. Other items would be dealer installed accessories like all-weather floor mats - although they did just make it possible to order these with most models. It's good to add in the things you know you'll want but they won't show up on the window sticker.
Also, a note about the payment estimator. It's...not my favorite. The exact calculations are a little opaque but they generally leave out important variables like rates and taxes. It also assumes a hefty down payment that most people don't notice right off the bat. It is best not to get one of those estimates into your head before getting an actual quote from a physical dealership. Just a tip.
So, enjoy the new GLS Build Your Own. May your Emerald Green/Espresso Brown vehicle check all your boxes!
It was a busy spring on my European Delivery calendar! I had three clients picking up within a month of each other and every one of them made it a different experience. Two of the cars made it back to the dealership this week so it seemed like a good time to share.
1 - E450 Cabriolet - Roadtrip
The gorgeous Rubellite Red E450 with Red top and Titian Red dashboard was the first car to make it back to the dealership. These folks planned a trip similar to my first European Delivery experience. It was go-go-go from the moment they landed. They picked up the car in the delivery center in Sindelfingen and then hit the road. They did 1500 miles in about 10 days and visited several countries!
They reported that it was much easier to drive in Germany and Italy then they had expected and had no issues with parking. Even with a cabriolet they were able to take all of their gear and ride in comfort.
2 - CLS53 - Stopover
This lovely couple already had a grand European adventure planned including a few days in Rome and a river boat cruise. They were able to squeeze in the pick-up of their CLS53 at the Center of Excellence in Sindelfingen at the start of their trip. They enjoyed the excellent hospitality, tour of the factory and dramatic unveiling of their new car. They just drove it a few miles that day and dropped it off but it was still a memorable experience!
3 - E63 AMG - Extended Adventure
Can you imagine a better vehicle for an extended tour of Europe than the E63 wagon? This client had a lot of friends and family to visit over the course of a month and tied that together with the delivery of his new Lunar Blue E63! He was able to travel at his own pace, take all his gear and enjoy some autobahn time in the new car! This car will arrive in Atlanta in a few weeks and he plans to fly in to take another long road trip home to Colorado!
There is no right or wrong way to experience the European Delivery Program! I can tell you how I have done it, how others have done it and help you customize the experience for yourself. Many of my clients are also open to sharing their experience directly with you if you need to talk it over! Please do let me know if I can help you plan your adventure! E-mail me, call me, let's make some memories!
Have you ever wondered how a Mercedes-AMG would handle itself around Road Atlanta? Are you an owner of a Mercedes-AMG vehicle? Are you a member of the AMG Private Lounge?
On May 19, 2018, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Mercedes-Benz USA and the AMG Private Lounge Team would like to welcome Mercedes-AMG owners and their guests to an afternoon of all things AMG at Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA.
Don’t miss what will be one of the largest gatherings of Mercedes-AMG vehicles in Georgia, e.g. part car show and part AMG experience. Mercedes-AMG owners will have a chance to try our cars on the autocross track plus an opportunity to hot lap Road Atlanta with AMG Driving Academy Pro drivers!
There is no cost to attend the event but you must be an AMG Private Lounge member and you must register for the event by Friday, May 11, 2018 at 12 PM EDT.
When you purchase a new Mercedes-Benz you will receive a set of Owner's Manuals. There is the traditional Manual that focuses on the physical features of the car and basic operation. In most new models this information is also available in the vehicle itself in the Digital Operator's Manual.
Also included in the packet with your new car is a booklet detailing your New Car Warranty, a chart with the details of each regularly scheduled service and various other pamphlets with details about specific options and programs.
Mercedes-Benz stopped printing a separate book for the COMAND system a few years ago. It is not missing from your books! It simply does not exist anymore.
It is fairly common for these books to get lost as the vehicle changes hands over the years. There is nothing in these books that is specific to the vehicle at this point so that is not a big deal. Any set of books for a 2016 E-Class will look the same as any other 2016 E-Class.
If you are looking to find the information from these books the easiest way is to download them from the MBUSA website. It is quick and easy to choose your year and model. If you really wanted a hard copy you can print them from this file. This is also the only place to read the COMAND manual.
If you are looking for the authentic hard copies of the books then you will need to order them from your dealership's parts department. They are rather expensive and take a few weeks to arrive.
You could also look online and see if anyone is selling a set. Perhaps they sold the car and found the books later. (This is the fate of nearly all cargo covers...found in the garage years later.)
So, if your previously enjoyed Mercedes-Benz is missing the books you can download them, order them or look for secondhand sources. Enjoy!
If you are anything like me, you have forgotten to renew your tag. Now it is your birthday and you have an expired tag and inevitably this will be the day you see every police car in the county! You can pay it online but there is a fee and it will take a few days to arrive in the mail.
Well, this problem has been solved! I found this great article on AJC.com and I thought I should spread the word!
Residents use the kiosks by scanning their Georgia driver’s licenses or their mailed vehicle renewal notices.
The kiosks give residents a self-service option to instantly print their tags, including stickers for vehicle license plates.
The kiosks are located at Kroger stores in DeKalb County at 6678 Covington Highway, in Newton County at 5341 Highway 20 South and in Cobb County at 3240 South Cobb Drive.
One of my clients sent me this picture from a recent Atlanta United Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. This is the Mercedes-Benz Loyalty Lot located just steps from Gate 1! She said it looked a lot like the dealership parking lot. Maybe you can do a little shopping for your next car while you are there!
Here are the details:
The Mercedes-Benz Loyalty Parking Lot is located on Northside Drive between Magnolia and Rhodes Streets and closest to Gate 1 of the stadium. The Mercedes-Benz Lot will be made available for online reservation on a first come, first serve basis starting at 12 noon two days prior to each ticketed event at the stadium, and the reservations will close when all available spots are reserved. Starting at that time, you can seek to reserve your space on https://parking.mercedesbenzstadium.com. There is no charge for these spaces. All vehicles entering the lot to park MUST BE Mercedes-Benz vehicles ONLY. If you are not driving a Mercedes-Benz vehicle you will be asked to park elsewhere. Only those with a reserved spot, parking pass from Park Mobile and driving a Mercedes-Benz vehicle will be able to park in this lot.

If you happen to park there, send me a picture. I know I'll be reserving my spot the next time I am headed to the Stadium!
A few years ago Georgia changed how vehicles were taxed for both purchase and lease. Instead of paying a county sales tax and annual ad velorum based on vehicle value, a one-time Title Ad Velorum Tax (TAVT) was assessed. The TAVT was calculated on the sale price of the new vehicle or the "book" value of the used vehicle regardless of purchase or lease. It is currently 7%, having increased slightly over the last few years.
Recently the state legislature worked on a bill to restructure this system. There were several other components to the bill during negotiations and many of those were removed. Used car dealers were hoping to remove the book value portion of the taxation. There were also provisions related to state vs. county distribution of the taxes collected. The only portion of the bill that passed the house and senate relates to taxation on leases.
Upon signature by the Governor, effective July 1, 2017, TAVT on leased vehicles will be calculated based on the total of lease payments, rather than the full value of the vehicle.
As someone who leases a car every three years, this is great news to me! As someone who helps other people lease cars every day, this is even better news! This should lower future lease payments for the average buyer by a noticeable amount.
Currently if you buy or lease a $50,000 car you will be assessed $3500 in TAVT. If you divide that into a 36 month lease and add interest it is over $100/month in taxes. The new rules would mean that a $700/month base lease payment would be assessed $49/month in taxes.
There is some confusion about the effective date for the new taxation. I have heard both July 1, 2017 and January 1, 2018. I will look for clarification on that in the coming weeks.

In the world of Mercedes-Benz there are common vehicles and then there are Unicorns. These mythical beasts can be new or pre-owned, modern or classic but what they share is rarity. If you are looking for a black E350 sedan with Premium Package I can show you 20 right now. If you are looking for a E350 wagon with Lighting Package and Distronic? Unicorn! You have to plan ahead to get that kind of equipment!
Most wagons in the US market are a little bit of a unicorn but the ultimate is the AMG wagon! These sleepers were almost always special order and rarely make it back to dealer inventory. This 2013 E63 wagon was originally sold in California. Now it is here in Georgia proving that you have to travel far and wide to catch up to a unicorn!
The E-Class cabriolet has not been gifted with an AMG engine in a number of years. It is a rare person that wants to go that fast with the top down! However, when you catch a glimpse of this unicorn it is mystical. This particular cabriolet looked great inside and outside! If you are going to own a unicorn you must take care of it!
Some unicorns are bigger than others. When Mercedes-Benz makes a special version of the classic G-Wagen you know it is going to be snapped up! The famous 6x6 is rarely seen in the wild but always photographed. The Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet version is currently making waves in Geneva. The 4×4² just arrived in the US and is the biggest unicorn on the lot! We'll see a very limited number in the US and probably just one year of production.
The moral of the unicorn story is that if you know what you want, you have to get it fast! Colors, options, engines, body styles and production volume are all changing all the time. If you love something, order it!
It has been a few years since Mercedes-Benz asked us to have cars inspected before the end of the lease. Well, it's back!
